I had the opportunity to visit Des Moines, Iowa and made sure I stopped by B&B Grocery, Meat & Deli. I used to babysit the owners, Joe and John Brooks, when they were a lot younger. I love them and their little butcher business as much as they love me and my children’s book.
I had a great time at the Ben Wheeler Book Fair where I met a lot of great people, including Terra who purchased a copy of “The Crocheted Santa”. Plus, I donated a couple copies of my book to the Ben Whee;er Children’s Library.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!
I recently visited YESS (Youth Emergency Services & Shelter) in Des Moines, Iowa along with 3XWrestling owner Todd Countryman. I learned of YESS after a conversation with Countryman, who is a volunteer at the shelter. Jana Daisys gave me a great tour and educated me about YESS and their mission.
YESS is a private nonprofit organization serving children and their families in Central Iowa. The agency opened in 1973 as a drop-in center for runaway teens and has grown into a well-established, highly-regarded, accredited agency designed to keep children safe. YESS is a safety net of services, providing healing and hope in times of crisis.
As the largest youth shelter and the only crisis nursery of its kind in the state of Iowa, YESS serves over 1,000 children each year – newborn to age 17 – providing emergency shelter, crisis intervention, and counseling services in an effort to heal families and change lives. YESS‘ range of services meet the physical, mental, and social health needs of children and teens, creating an environment where families can thrive.
I donated 50 copies of my book “The Crocheted Santa” in gift bags, which also included a teddy bear and holiday themed notepads, for the children that will be located in the shelter during the holiday season. Two of the books will remain in the shelter’s permanent on-site library.

I love your book because it is about sharing and giving a Christmas tradition and teaching kids to give and not get.
I was invited to Alexandria’s Cupcake Cottage in Springfield, Missouri. What a wonderful place for someone with a sweet tooth! They have cupcakes, cookies and even cakes! Alexandria was extremely friendly and accommodating! The Crocheted Santa and the Santa suite fit in perfectly!
I had a great time with the kids at Hubble Elementary School in Marshfield, Missouri. My family name is Hubble, so I hold this school close to my heart. The kids loved seeing the crocheted Santa suit and seemed to really be entertained by my reading of “The Crocheted Santa”.
One added bonus was seeing my brother’s grandson, Eli! Visiting this school was truly a special experience.
I was excited to share “The Crocheted Santa” with the students and staff at Heller Elementary School in Neodesha, Kansas. The kids really enjoyed the reading and seeing the actual crocheted Santa suit!
